RAISING THE BARRE: THE CAMPAIGN FOR PENNSYLVANIA BALLET

Artistic Initiatives

Repertoire Enhancement

Campaign Goal: $1,485,000
Ballet is not just an art of motion; it is an art in motion, constantly invigorated by the performance of new works and new stagings of revered classics. The broader the repertoire, the more esteemed the company.

A successful Capital Campaign will enable the Ballet to dramatically enhance its repertoire in a number of ways: by commissioning major new productions, such as Swan Lake; acquiring full-length productions by ballet masters such as Jerome Robbins; refurbishing treasured favorites and existing masterpieces; and commissioning new works by emerging and established contemporary choreography.

Company Expansion

Campaign Goal: $450,000
While it performs at a level equal to many other major companies, the Ballet does so with comparatively fewer dancers. Increasing the size of the Company by seven new dancers will allow the ballet to present more large-scale productions, such as The Sleeping Beauty, that require a larger cast. It will also allow the current heavy schedule of rehearsals and performances to be spread more evenly among more dancers, reducing the potential for injuries.

Touring

Campaign Goal: $250,000
To establish a national presence, the Ballet must perform on a national stage, which can only be accomplished through touring. Our goal is to bring Pennsylvania Ballet to major cities in the Northeast, Midwest and South. At the same time, we are focused on bringing ballet to smaller cities and rural communities closer to home in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.

Expanding Outreach Efforts

Campaign Goal: $615,000
Nearly 10 years ago, in response to the lack of dance education in public schools, the Ballet developed Accent on Dance, an education and outreach program that teaches children about ballet and gives them an inside look at the Company. The success of this program laid the foundation for the creation of Pennsylvania Ballet II, a training program that offers dance training and performance opportunities with the main Company and expands the capacity of our outreach program. The Capital Campaign will allow us to gradually increase the size of Pennsylvania Ballet II and provide more extensive training.

Preserving The Nutcracker

Campaign Goal: $100,000
One might assume that once a major production has been created and staged, only minimal care and costs is required for upkeep. In truth, retaining the visual freshness of the production is expensive and time-consuming. Therefore, Pennsylvania Ballet will make a significant investment in everyone's holiday favorite, The Nutcracker.

*Campaign gifts of $2,500 to $25,000 from individual donors will be matched dollar for dollar by the Independence Foundation, up to a total of $500,000. A donor who makes a $25,000 gift to the Campaign will receive a $25,000 match and be recognized at the $50,000 giving level.
