Accent on Dance
2007-2008 Dress Rehearsal Program
Approximately 6000 students from 60 different schools, organizations, and home school groups attend Pennsylvania Ballet dress rehearsals each year. Students are prepared for their theatre through specially designed workbooks and other supplementary materials provided to their teachers. Registration is done through a general mailing in September and there is no charge for this program, except for transportation which is the responsibility of each participating school or institution. Dracula

Just in time for Halloween! Ben Stevenson’s Dracula is complete with flying vampires and dazzling pyrotechnics. Journey to 19th century Transylvania for this macabre and timeless tale set to a powerful score by Franz Liszt. It’s bloody good ballet.

George Balanchine's The Nutcracker

George Balanchine’s holiday classic…join Marie and her Prince on their journey to the magical Land of Sweets. Delight to the dancing of the Sugarplum Fairy, Dew Drop, Mother Ginger and her Polichinelles as you lose yourself in Tschaikovsky’s beautiful and stirring music.

Messiah

Handel’s most famous work come to life…Messiah opens with a full choir onstage. Sun streams through bare chapel windows as dancers slowly appear. With angels and doves floating about the stage, the work blends an old world charm with contemporary movement and imagery.

This timeless story of a young couple in love, a mysterious toymaker and a magical doll is simple, charming and laugh-out-loud funny. Set to music by Leo Delibes, this sentimental comic ballet is beloved by audiences everywhere for its humor, pantomime and folk dancing.

Carnival of the Animals

Christopher Wheeldon’s critically acclaimed ballet tells the story of a young boy who spends the night in a magical museum where creatures come to life. With witty and amusing narration written by actor John Lithgow and set to music by Camille Saint-Saëns.
