William DeGregory and the dancers of Pennsylvania Ballet II 2005-06
Pennsylvania Ballet II, an eight-member troupe of pre-professional dancers led by former principal dancer, William DeGregory, is designed to complement Pennsylvania Ballet's existing outreach and education program, Accent on Dance. Specifically, this program enables Pennsylvania Ballet to greatly expand the scope and depth of its outreach effort through theatre and non-theatre-based performances at Philadelphia area schools and other small venues. Mr. DeGregory, in conjunction with the Company's Artistic Director, Roy Kaiser, has developed a one hour performance-based program that includes audience participation, a demonstration of ballet exercises dancers use to build strength, stamina, and flexibility, excerpts from the Company's repertoire, and a question and answer period. Two-day and mulit-visit residency programs have also been developed and implemented.
Pennsylvania Ballet II schedules 25 to 30 free performances in schools throughout Philadelphia, Camden, and the surrounding suburban communities in both Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey. Additional performances are scheduled for senior centers/residences, community art centers, and other commercial and non-commercial venues that extend the Company's reach into the greater community.
